The brief was to demolish the existing boarding house (Galangwa) and design and construct a new facility capable of accommodating up to 60 students both male and female.
The design incorporated four living quarters with a breakout in the middle of each wing.
The 4 wings were separated by a shared area known as the arcade, from that there is a kitchen/living area with 2 TV’s then on the opposite side a wellness room. The arcade is designed to a very high spec using timber for both the ceilings and walls along with acoustic materials. Lots of seating in the arcade along with an air hocky table.
The front building is the staff admin again done to a very high spec.
Outside is a new basketball court with additional BBQ’s and lots of landscaping to help provide a tranquil setting. Security was a high priority throughout the building but was designed to be as intrusive as possible. The combination of external cladding and lighting along with the landscaping and outdoor areas gives this building an air of sophistication.
