Jaytex Construction is proud to have delivered the Northern Territory Government’s $8 million Diagnostics Laboratory, a highly specialised facility forming part of the broader $44 million Berrimah Farm Science Precinct upgrade. This milestone project was funded jointly by the Territory and Federal Governments to strengthen the North’s biosecurity and agricultural research capabilities.
As the only biosecurity containment level 3 facility of its kind in Northern Australia, the 850m² molecular diagnostics laboratory sets a new standard for research infrastructure in the region. Purpose-designed by MODE Design and constructed by Jaytex, the laboratory enables advanced biosecurity testing, supports market access for Territory agricultural products, and helps attract world-class scientists to the NT.
Jaytex’s role was instrumental in translating complex design requirements into a functional, high-performance facility. From managing intricate services integration to ensuring airtight containment controls, Jaytex worked closely with project stakeholders to deliver a building that meets the rigorous demands of modern scientific research.
Delivered during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project faced significant global supply chain disruptions. Despite these challenges, the Jaytex team maintained program certainty, collaborating closely with suppliers, consultants, and government agencies to ensure the facility was delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.
Jaytex is proud to have played a key role in advancing the NT’s capacity for agricultural and biosecurity innovation. The new diagnostics laboratory will enable more advanced research, improve production outcomes for local industries, and enhance the Territory’s ability to detect and manage exotic pests and diseases.
