A rising star: Jess Gibson steps up as Jaytex’s first female Project Director
When Jess Gibson embarked on her journey in the construction industry more than a decade ago, she couldn’t have imagined the heights she would reach.
As Jess steps into her role as Jaytex Construction’s youngest and first female Project Director, her remarkable career trajectory is representative of her dedication and passion for the industry and the profound impact she has made within the industry.
Jess’ journey began in 2013 at a local hardware, where her early exposure to the construction industry ignited a deep passion for the field.
Her career path saw her excel in various roles, including labourer, Executive Assistant, Administration Manager, Project Coordinator, Contract Administrator and Project Manager providing her with a wealth of knowledge to draw from.
This extensive hands-on experience has been instrumental in shaping Jess into the versatile and capable leader she is today.
Jaytex recognised these abilities early on, quickly advancing Jess to Project Manager.
Her recent promotion to Project Director marks a significant milestone in her career and a testament to her exceptional capabilities, resilience, and leadership.
Her outstanding contributions earned her the 2021 NAWIC NT Award for Achievement in Project Delivery and a finalist spot for the Young Achiever Award.
Jess has demonstrated time and time again her ability to navigate complex project requirements, successfully delivering a multitude of projects within the NT across diverse sectors including retail, commercial, medical, laboratory, mining, and hospitality.
Notable projects include the APA Group Head-Office and Warehouse, the Core Lithium Processing Plant Maintenance Warehouse, and more recently, the soon to be completed highly complex Berrimah Farm Science Services Laboratory.
Each project showcases her proficiency in handling intricate challenges and delivering exceptional results.
She is known for her dedication to mentorship and continuous improvement, having trained several junior staff, documented valuable lessons learned throughout her projects, and completed numerous qualifications.
Her leadership extends beyond her role, contributing to a positive work culture and fostering growth within her team.
“Mentoring the next generation of construction professionals is something I am deeply passionate about,” Jess said.
Jess’s involvement in industry events and community initiatives further highlight her dedication, participating in the 2022 Charles Darwin University Women in Construction STEM campaign, the NAWIC NT Trailblazer event, and the 2024 Women Building Australia Mentor Program.
Jess’s approach to project management is characterised by meticulous planning, strategic problem solving, and a focus on achieving high-quality outcomes for all stakeholders.
Her ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges, maintain open communication, and drive team success underscores her role as a leading figure in construction management.
